Parokya Ni Edgar live in Taguig

The City of Taguig surprised Taguigueños once again with a free concert. This time with the local hit band and labeled as  “Pambansang Banda ng Pilipinas”,  Parokya ni Edgar and You Tube sensation Abra with LDP team.  Dubbed as “Taguig Rocking Hard @ 10: Featuring Parokya ni Edgar and Abra” a Taguig City Charter Concert held along Pedro Cayetano Boulevard besides Star Mall in Taguig City last February 5.

Dindin Moreno

Front vocalist Chito Miranda and Bassist Buhawi Meneses

Since college days, Parokya become my second favorite local band, of course Eraserheads still the best among the rest.  But Parokya is now the only multi-award winning original Filipino hit band that is formed in the 90’s which is not yet disbanded and hopefully not.  Though Vinci Montaner call it quits last 2012 due to personal reasons but there was no great impact to the band’s career.

The band opening song was the hitmaker Buloy. It was under their maiden album Khangkhungkherrnitz in 1996 together with the hit songs Trip and Lutong Bahay.  That album becomes a Triple Platinum having sold 120,000 units.  The band have said that Buloy was actually a real person, an FEU fine arts student and the rest is history.

It was followed by Para Sa ‘Yo to whom he dedicated to the Boys, and asked to behave for rest of the show.

Ok lang kayo mag-slamman, basta ingatan nyo lang yung mga girls na katabi nyo ha, enjoy tayo basta walang masasaktan, I-che check ko kada tapos ng kanta kung me nasaktan ~ Chito Miranda

Then Halaga, which he dedicate to the girls who always fall for the wrong guy. Silvertoes to the ugly girls. Then when Chito Miranda distributed some bottled waters to the crowd draws and sing “tama na yan… ” Inuman Na

The next song is quite hilarious, Chito does the Bagsakan rapping the part of Gloc-9 and the late master rapper FrancisM.

One and Only You (Your Song) sang by Gab Chee Kee which he also composed the lyrics.

It took
one look
and forever lay out in front of me

One smile
then I die
only to be revived by you

There I was
thought I had everything
figured out
goes to show just how much I know
’bout the way life plays out

I take one step away
and I find myself coming back
to you
my one and only
one and only

Their final act was The Yes Yes Show, to the delight of the fans, the crowd sings together with the lyrics in chorus. Chito thanked the City local mayor Lani Cayetano and its councilors for inviting Parokya band.  Cayetano officiated their civil wedding on Taguig, December 13 last year.

Chito Miranda marries Neri Naig not once, but twice.

I though Eminem is in the house. Honestly, I haven’t heard any rap music from the group Abra before but just right here.  So I googled his name and according to wiki, Raymond Abracosa, better known as Abra, is a Filipino hip hop artist and occasional actor.  He gained popularity in his song “Gayuma, Love Potion”.  The music video for the song shows Abra being given a potion only to realize that his love interest is in fact a transgender. The video has reached more than 26 million views on YouTube, the highest number generated by any local artist.

Abra and DJ Buddah

His career started as a member of Pinoy hip hop group Lyrically Deranged Poets (LDP) in 2010. They released their independent debut album,The Project in 2009, and had their first major concert at the legendary Music Museum in 2010. LDP was awarded Best Urban Group at both the 2010 and 2011 Urban Music Awards, among other nominations. In 2011, LDP was granted TV air time on myx for the music video of their song, “Here to Own It”, which was able to enter the charts. He is also a major icon in the Fliptop battle league, as well as a co-host on PTV 4’s show iConnect.

When the Fliptop and Sunugan rap battle leagues came about in 2010, Abra was one of the first battle emcees to compete and gradually make a name for himself. After a couple of intense rap battles, Abra has been considered as one of the heavyweights in Filipino rap battling. Using his compelling lyrical style coupled with witty antics, he is able to impress viewers and artists alike; and has YouTube videos that have amassed millions of views. It did not take long until Abra was able to perform on live television, radio shows and various events across the country.

Thanks for the great music Taguig City!

Mabuhay ang OPM!
